Use this type when a modification is accounted for as a separate contract under ASC 842-10-25-8. Both conditions must be met:
  • The modification grants an additional right of use that was not in the original contract, such as additional floors or a new asset.
  • The lease payments increase by an amount commensurate with the standalone price for the additional right of use, adjusted for the circumstances of the contract.
Spacebase opens the setup wizard for a new accounting lease linked to the same lease-administration record. The existing accounting lease is not changed, so its liability and ROU asset continue on their original schedule. Review both records so payments are not duplicated across them. This option is also the only way to continue accounting on a lease-administration record after the accounting lease has been terminated or expired. It supports the componentized approach described in Accounting Leases, where each floor or asset is its own accounting lease.
