# Entities

> Identify the business entities on your leases and set their codes and currencies.

Use entities to identify the businesses that enter into your leases. If your company signs leases through several subsidiaries, create a separate entity for each so you can select the correct business on each lease.

Open **Company > Company Settings** and select **Entities**. The sidebar label includes your company name.

## Add a business entity

1. Click **Create Entity**.
2. Enter the entity's **Company name**, using the name your team will recognize when assigning it to a lease.
3. Enter its **Company code** if your organization uses a separate identifier for that business.
4. Select its **Currency**. In lease accounting, the lessee entity's currency supplies the functional currency for lessee leases; the lessor entity's currency serves that role for lessor leases.
5. Save the form, then select the entity on the relevant leases.

For example, a subsidiary may have USD as its functional currency while signing a lease denominated in EUR. The entity currency and the lease's contract currency serve different purposes, so they do not have to match.

To correct an entity's details, select its row in the list. If you change its currency, review the functional-currency reporting for the affected accounting leases.

For mapping accounting entries to GL accounts, see [Chart of accounts](/accounting/chart-of-accounts).
